@Historylover Yes carrying secrets has its price. I've just noticed for me at least the price is paid for by people surrounding the person keeping the secrets. It can be a serious deception. But I do like Lisa Curry, she has always been a nice person and I don't think she puts out a persona. But it must have been hard carrying around that with nobody to talk to at such a young age. When I was growing up stuff like that was heavily stigmatised. Maybe she just knew what she had to do.
I don't think there is such a thing as a good family, theres varying levels of dysfunction involved. Family systems theory and some of the quantitative methods of analysis around families that were broadly studied when family therapy was first introduced in the 60's demonstrated what actually goes on in these so called nice homes that are presented to the world. My family was no good. There was fighting and abuse nearly every day but there were also times where there was some measure of happy times. You can't say definitively its all bad. But growing up all I saw was emotional abuse and the threat of physical abuse. My friends could not put up with the burden of seeing me upset every day and did not want the responsibility of being there for me during my distress so I was seriously let down by people and had to find my own way in the world. I left home at 18 years old as I literally had enough and got mental illness. So my family was very difficult, it was unhappy and I came from a very broken home - a re-creation of my parents earlier experiences growing up with their families of origin. I think in times gone by we carried the sins of our forefathers. There may be some sense of greater awareness now about the human condition and not wanting to pass it on to our children.
I've just been to the library and got my Bitcoin books. The bus route has been cancelled while they are doing major roadworks - should have checked where the bus has been redirected to - caught a taxi instead. The book I got was an updated 2022 edition of Bitcoin for Dummies - I have been reading it and its an incredible book. Setting everything down in accessible writing format so you can do Bitcoin safely without losing your investment. I'm so glad I got it. It was an excellent decision - at least I will be safeguarded from losing my money on Bitcoin. That is what the book said. Most people venture forth with Bitcoin not having a roadmap. I will say I feel like I'm doing something risky but more education less risk people in Bitcoin have said so I will aim to educate myself as much as possible.
Your day will pick up Historylover. I have days like that. I don't know whether I'm a realist or seeing a glass half empty with situations. My books will keep me going. They are brand new and its as if I could have bought them myself. Too bad I had to catch a taxi. Theres even more construction work around the library so theyre digging up the place everywhere. Its inconvenient. I think the bus now runs down a parallel street I will have to look into it with ptvic.

Hmm, families @SmilingGecko. My birth family is an ongoing nightmare but I've never seen one I envy. It can't be bought or acted out. I want the real thing. I'm just full of regret of late; regret at the state of things, regret that it can't be fixed, regret that my family is so stupid and attention-seeking, losing all values, integrity and sense of self to be the centre of attention, regret that our lives are being wasted in a family fight that is also steeped in misunderstandings and misinformation. It was so good when I had purpose. Stressful, but so good. How I miss it. I wouldn't want my family back in the same condition though. I am well out of that abuse. I just want to meet everyone half-way, but I'm dreaming.
Re Lisa Curry, stigma while in the public eye, and everyone's darling? Too burdensome for a young girl. Pity that others have such a bearing on our lives, isn't it? Even people we don't know.
I watched SAS for a few episodes. It is so interesting to learn a little about the personalities we hear about but don't know, yet have preconceived ideas about; ideas probably wrought by the media's gossip machine. I also liked to see the participants push themselves beyond normal endurance. It's a wonder there aren't more serious injuries. "Accidents happen" they say! I wonder how far these reality shows are prepared to push people to get ratings.
I also often watch Alone. People can be so resourceful when they must be. I'm resourceful, but I have my limits. Eating worms for protein? Bears prowling about? Wolf packs? It's survival, I guess. Our ancestors lived through it. Tough. Hats off to them and thank you!.
Pleased that you were able to get your book. You're obviously putting in all the effort to gain a knowledgeable footing. I might have a look at it myself, but I admit to being risk averse. Bird in the hand, and all that.

I understand @Historylover, its normal to want some semblance of a clan. We used to have a nice community until people died etc. I don't think we can wish for our families of origin to change, they are what they are. Have learnt that through experience like you. TBH I am now happier by myself on my own terms. It used to really bother me but now I am content. I can live alone now. It was a huge adjustment to make and I never liked being on my own but something shifted and reset itself and I just adjusted to this state of being. Its good because you only let people in that you want and are not in need. But I do think we are social creatures but I don't want to get involved with people that upset my life. I haven't met people who pass the test. You want good folk in your life. I realise you also need to be realistic but its basically what you are prepared to put up with as we all have faults. There are people who say "they wish they hadn't" and there are people who say "they wish they had of" in life. You either have deep regret or you have unfulfilled longing. I think that just about sums it up. Mine would have been unfulfilled longings and never quite jumping into situations but I just didn't want to live with regret. I think we are all faced with that choice and have to live with the outcomes of those choices. FYI The Bitcoin book I'm reading is wonderful. I'm glad I went to the library. It sets out how to keep your bitcoin secure so its not stolen or lost. Bitcoin is big in countries like Venuzuela as the inflation got so bad in that country that the currency was practically worthless. Many wealthy people and folks in banking/commerce online I notice are pulling their money out of the major banks after all these banks folding in the USA (which will come here) and are investing in crypto and gold/silver/platinum. I saw the dude of Rich Dad Poor Dad fame who I saw on Oprah do the same thing. I heard the Commonwealth Bank was stopping or restricting people from withdrawing money for crypto. I have been unhappy with the big banks for a while and instead opened accounts with credit union community banks. You may have more say over your money there. I am just putting money in there in dribs and drabs from my disability pension and connecting it to my crypto wallet. I think @TAB had problems transferring money to pay for his house and had to split his payments in half because the banks refused. Its never been like this. The banks are restricting large transfers I have been told so its hard to pay for anything. But yes get the latest edition of Bitcoin for Dummies - its a great book and will hold you in good stead. We can't rely on fiat currency in future so the time to act is now! 🙂

At the moment I am getting 5% pa on my government guaranteed investments, and that is likely to increase into the future. 'Everyone else' is wanting rates to go down, but this is the turn of people like me who live within our means and had to grin and bear low interest rates for a long time while getting next to nothing on our investments.
Regrets are so hard to eliminate, @SmilingGecko, when there are few joys to displace them. I have no problems living alone, but it shouldn't be my sum total. It's just not healthy.
I will get that book if my library has it. I find books for Dummies to be a good source of information. I want to understand how it works—is it an algorithm playing the stock market because if it isn't how is it not a pyramid scheme? I'm very wary. Do you know anyone who has invested in Bitcoin? It's something of an enigma! Money used to be such a simple commodity.

Hello @Historylover no Bitcoin is not a pyramid scheme or a ponzi scheme. I think you will like it. I'm only new to this myself. But that book I got is really amazing. Its got thickets of wonderful information that makes it easy to learn without getting lost in lots of intimidating data. GET THE BOOK! At some stage in future we will have a one world centralised currency (you probably allready know) so it makes sense to have parallel economies like crypto to enjoy more personal freedoms.
Watch Rich Dad Poor Dad on the internet and his take on cryptos and what he's doing. He has a website but I've seen him interviewed on you tube. I don't do investments but do get info teasers from stockbrokers who are telling people the same thing - crypto gold/silver/platinum.
Derrick Broze alt journo is also big on crypto. Saw him being interviewed recently, same with Catherine Austin Fitts economist who tells people to go with smaller credit unions. She has advice on what to ask a credit union before you join, someone she said got back to her after using that info and she said it was one of the most empowering discussions she ever had in her life and with a bank manager. She walked off happy.
I get phone calls from the credit union I joined and I got a sense from the lady that there has been an exodus from the major banks. I told her I was disabled and she was surprised I had left too for the same reasons.

Yes we are a member of the club. Unfortunately these courses are so gruelling. Saw an alternative journalist say that uni can be hazardous to your health and its very commonplace to suffer complications as a result of intense pressure and stress. Its well known to people within certain circles that uni students can go under.
Good to see you on here @TAB I hope you have a good night. Not much on today. Have been regrouping. Got some great books from the library under the inspiration of @Historylover. Used to buy secondhand books from World of Books after Book Depository collapsed. Theres a World of Books in Australia. Its where I usually go to get stuff of recent date
