Re: Good Morning!

@maddison

I guess I'm lucky in that I own my house. I spent my Superannuation to make sure I would always have a roof over my head.

I can't even begin to imagine what it must be like for people paying rent.

My medical costs take a huge chunk of my benefits and when I had my stroke there were immediate expenses that I used my credit card for. Now I have to pay the cc bill.

This is the thanks I get from our lucky country for working all my life and paying taxes while raising a family.

Yes I'm a tad bitter about this.

Re: Good Morning!

I have been thinking the same re: labour stance @TAB & have been keeping ear out, have been disappointed so far.

Re: Good Morning!

yeah, same, but no other real options @maddison  unless into corruption and punishing welfare recipients while making money out of it

Re: Good Morning!

@TAB

As I said to @maddison I am lucky that I own my house. It's small, I call it my oversized granny flat. Just one bedroom, combined living/dining/kitchen and utility area/bathroom. Only two years old, fully insulated and double glazed windows so I can get away with only lighting the wood heater a couple of times a week at the moment. The wood heater has a cooktop so when the fire is lit all cooking is done on that. I have a wind turbine, portable solar panel and deep cycle batteries I kept from when I lived in the camper so I use those to keep my power costs down. My current usage is calculated at .30c a day + the supply charge. I work hard at being frugal. Am looking forward to that $250 at the end of the month to buy firewood and the $$ from working on election day to get my car serviced.

Only another 3.25 years till the aged pension.

Re: Good Morning!

@Scream58 many of the alternate/herbal remedies are so diluted now and full of fillers so its not worth the money.  The whole natural healing market is like this.

Many of them are full of "natural flavors" (ie MSG) which will only exacerbate health issues as viruses in the body such as epstein barr and streptococcus feed off MSG and worsen health issues.

The so called health food stores are full of MSG. So don't worry youre not missing out on anything.

Its due to what the TGA has done to regulate market forces to make health products practically useless

Re: Good Morning!

..sounds very organised @Scream58  my energy costs well over $5/day ..

@Former-Member

Thanks for that info. I seem to remember seeing something on a TV documentary about it. They basically said unless you grow/make your own alternative remedies then you are not likely to get any benefit from them.

I saw something the other day that suggested children shouldn't be prevented from getting tapeworms and some other parasites because they can actually stimulate the gut and immune system and the current wave of allergies could be because we "broke" the ecosystem which is the human body.

Re: Good Morning!

Well owning your own home is incredibly fortunate @Scream58 , although the fact that you had to use your super must cause some anxieties I imagine.

Paying rent in this climate, imo is 'undoable'. It is choice between rent, food, bills etc. Leading to homelessness, mental health crisis, drug addictions in my observations.

Personally my circumstances are both fortuitous & bleak. I rely on government support, & my living situation is mutually beneficial where I provide support & care to a friend who I live with.

Paying cc for medical expenses would likely make me bitter too!

Re: Good Morning!

@TAB

Centrelink pushed me to take my super in 2018 so I took it and used it to buy land and build my house. I need the security of knowing I had a roof over my head no matter what else life throws at me.

At the moment life is throwing stuff like it's one of those machines that fire tennis balls. I need a bigger racquet.

Be careful if Centrelink start asking about your super.
