Re: Far and Away

Hi @Faith-and-Hope @Former-Member @Snowie @TAB @Eve7 Was going to break up the concrete from my front step to the gate but it is too hard - the sledge hammer is just bouncing off. That means I am going to have to cut it - so that is a job for another day.

Going to watch some of the cricket and then head out the back to do some gardening instead.

Re: Far and Away

@ Tabs has vast experience breaking concrete @Zoe7  😊 as my body prob would attest to. if its a path prob under 100mm  thick and no fabric (steel)..

See if can hire or borrow as big a jack hammer as you can handle ( about the 3 sizes in 240v plug in ones) they will all do it eventually if it a smaller drill type one it will complain, bigger one would be okay so long as on hammer and with a chisel bit

if you can stand jackhammer up on the chisel point and hang onto it you'd be okay , it does all the work.

re size depends how much you want to get rid of.

if you do get a jackhammer, Always work towards an unsupported edge, say  start 100mm in from the edge and make a line across concrete parallel to an edge, working (slight angle) from inside to outside

the concrete has nothing to support the free edge. then do the same from the other edge on the side, 100mm ish in from outside and as a piece comes loose, work backwards towards the centre of the concrete 😊 bunnings or someone would have a video these days, doing this makes job 5 times easier and 5x as quick 😊

Re: Far and Away

Hey @TAB It is quite a deep concrete base under the concreted in tiles (2 stages of concreting that I can see). I want to leave the base so I have a solid foundation (and do not have to spend more). If I make some vertical cuts across the tiles I should be able to pull them off the base as I did for the step. If that does not work I will borrow my sister's partner's jack hammer 👍

Re: Far and Away

Tiles should make it easier @Zoe7 ? Prob just has layer of grout under tiles, should come off more solid base. Anyway good luck

Re: Far and Away

The tiles are concreted in @TAB so it is a bit harder than grout. They came off the step quite easily once I could get under them so hoping that will be the same with the path. A few cuts through that first layer should help 🤞 Not doing today though, my back is not up to it.

Re: Far and Away

Hi @Zoe7 and @Faith-and-Hope just passing and saw you both and wanted to wave hi! I am just having a little break from soem gardening I am doing in my lovely back garden and wanted to send warm wishes and it's been a while hellos. 🖐waving

Re: Far and Away

Okay fair enough @Zoe7

Re: Far and Away

I do appreciate you taking the time to help me out @TAB 👍

@MoonGal Long time no see - nice to have you visit us here Hon 💖 I have just been in my garden for a little while as well. Unfortunately if I have to bend too much I am not up to much today as my back is not great so I have done a little weeding (sitting on the grass) and raked up some leaves - Toby has been 'helping' me lol

Re: Far and Away

Ohh prob done similar in

past a long time ago , jumping in with unsolicited advice 😬 @Zoe7  thanks tho

Re: Far and Away

Not at all unsolicited @TAB I appreciate your insight 👍

What else have you been up to today?
