Re: Let's do Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT)

Sorry I didn't address some people I was personally responding to. Getting used to this forum.

Re: Let's do Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT)

Hey guys, I can see that there is some tension happening here. Please take note that online communication can be difficult- without tone, body language etc words can easily be misinterpreted. Discussing therapies can hit so close to home that it is easy to feel criticized. It is important as part of a safe and inclusive community that we maintain respectful communication. During this time it can be useful to review our resource on managing conflict here

Why don’t you manage members comments when they’re offensive?

Re: Let's do Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT)

Hi Darcy,
I know what you mean. Speaking out vs being quiet. I guess it comes down to what's more important to you. Speaking your beliefs , making a stand or whatever and possibly being judged or disliked or something like that OR being the quiet , people pleaser that doesn't ruffle feathers...You say that external conflict resolution can come at a price but what about the flip side, the price you can pay for dealing with internal conflict and allowing it to possibly fester as opposed to just dealing with it through discussion.
Sure, it may not go to plan but that's just a risk you take I guess.

Re: Let's do Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT)

Thank you @Winterz It is complicated when threads meander all about the place with people responding to different phrases in the earlier posts.

For a change I was being relaxed and just saying it as it was and not trying to be a people pleaser etc.

They switched his Dx around to both hospitalise him and then eject him from the Emergency Dept.  It was my pdoc who said he had the BPD label.  I have not teared up for this brother for a while. He died in 1995.  You are one of the few you has spoken to my grief for him.  It just touched me and that was good.  I know I still feel for him but can recover and am no longer overwhelmed.

Learning about the treatment helps me understand the problem.  So its not just academic.

Edit - not sure why I keep acting this out - walking into situation of tension - being artless or thoughtless - and hoping that helps. Woman EmbarassedWoman SadWoman FrustratedWoman Surprisedtrying to rescue a thread ???

Sorry everybody. Hope you work stuff out.
