Hi @Former-Member
Yes - it is an insult if people imagine we can replace a live being with a robot - a robot can play tricks - but imagine a robot as your companion -
Now I really enjoy my computer and it tells me a lot but it only does what I tell it most of the timed - imagine if it started to get into my lap while I was watching TV - aw no no no
About grief - it does lessen in time but it has its own lessons - we have to go through it not around it - and it teaches us a lot and I think that in retrospect my very Anglo-Saxon father with his stiff-upper-lip was so controlling of his own emotions I grew up thinking that was the truth - but when it comes to grief and depression then the Celtic side of my genetic inheritance had it say and it really threw me because in spite of the deaths that had occurred in my life before my son died I had not be taught or even allowed to grieve and this is something that needs to be taught
-
In fact - I did not shield my kids from this side of life at all - and when we found a dead bird I told me 4 yo son - "The bird is dead - the body is still here but the spirit has gone" and not long after I heard him repeat that to a number of small children when they found a dead bird. This child was confused about so much but he got that one
My mother didn't want us to have pets because she said it hurt too much when they died. She was not prepared herself in spite of losing important family members when she was young - but my kids had cats - I love cats - and the cats came and lived with us and died and I think that yes - grief does lessen in time but it is something we learn to deal with as well
Yes - I love my owl puddy-tat - when I was told she might have cancer because of her sustained weight loss I prepared myself that I would not let her suffer - but thank God - she put weight on after over a year of weight loss - she beat whatever it was - now I can tell she has put on weight when she goes to sleep on me at night at night
You have had three bumps - better to have them all at once - and I hope your life is a little smoother now

Hi @Former-Member - how are your little birdies doing? My budgie is chirping away like crazy, communicating with the washing machine I think. He seems to like noise and boy, he can make a lot of it on his own.
Do all your birds get along? Do they sit together on the perch? So cute.

Hi @Former-Member how are you doing today. As I haven't read this thread, I'm not sure whether you have birds in a cage or wild birds. I've been out in the garden, it's a beautiful spring day here, washing on the line, thanks to @soul reminding me. Coffee time now and a sit for a while. Hope you are doing ok. Thinking of you.
