Re: New to Melbourne need to make Friends

@Former-Member My resume is pretty good at the moment but is it catered for mental health, peer support work?

I think I may need assistance with refreshing my resume but I'm not sure If I need to as its mostly IT and Retail centric for those roles. Would be kind in having a look at it? or point me in the right direction who will?

Re: New to Melbourne need to make Friends

hey @Talzy_T
I think the beauty of the peer support work roles are that they can be based on your lived experience firstly. Then of course you can factor in your IT and sales experience. It all counts in the end.

I've always struggled with resume and CV stuff ever since I was younger. It is hard to do I find

Re: New to Melbourne need to make Friends

@Talzy_T  A CV/resume can be tricky, as you so rightly suggest. A CV for one role may be on point, but when you're applying for a role in a different sector/industry it might require a more tailored response. Whilst I would love to help individually tailor resumes for all my forum pals, time makes that prohibitive, and I'm not what you would call an HR expert 😊

The reason I asked the question was to gauge whether there might be interest in arranging a skills based event, perhaps a Topic Tuesday or something similar, that focuses on honing skills geared towards peer support work. Perhaps a discussion, led by a HR or hiring manager who works in the sector, around writing a cover letter and building your CV. Does that sound like something you might be interested in @Talzy_T and @MDT? I can't promise anything, but I can certainly raise it as a suggestion to the team.

@Former-Member Thanks for the support!! I really appreciate it.

Yes that sounds great if I can get someone to help me and see my current cover letter and resume that would help immensely or even attending a help session would be great!!
