Re: High functioning ASD

Well, maybe it will help him to know that for me, the more I know about my neurodiversity, the kinder I have been able to be to myself @Shaz51

Still a work in progress! But like if I am significantly bothered by something, I no longer think to myself 'Ugh what's wrong with me, other people are fine with this, just get over it!!'

It's more like, 'Oh, I think this might be another sensory thing' or 'Geez maybe I'm just overstimulated, let's go take a breather and see where I'm at'

The fact that it is genetic is also important hey, if your grandkids might benefit from that insight as well!

Re: High functioning ASD

@Shaz51 I found it helpful to notice some of the aspie tendencies and good to relate to people who stuck at things long enough to get a skill. It was better than being put down for being a try hard.  I also see some tendencies as a response to trauma in childhood. Tbh I am not particularly fond of too many diagnoses, or where one person has all the things wrong with them. I liked family therapy which looked at dynamics more. We all have strengths and weaknesses. I can identify aspie... If I am also doing Mad Pride

Re: High functioning ASD

Thanks for the tag and for making this thread! @Shaz51

I hope this thread will allow some of us that have high functioning ASD to connect with each other on here 🙂

@Jynx

Re: High functioning ASD

will be great @Blackcloud

how are you today , friday yaaaa

Re: High functioning ASD

@Shaz51 thanks for the add. I am autistic and adhd as well. I am also an active advocate in the community.

I am happy that this space is here as I love learning and sharing. I do however think that the autistic community has worked endlessly in the importance of language used to refer to autistic people. The words "high functioning and ads" are quite problematic when referred to us. I am happy to provide some resources and explain why if there is interest in this thread. 😉

Thanks for having this space!

Re: High functioning ASD

Like to have more information to help my hubby who has adhd too   @Charlie17

And my step adult children have adhd

We have another thread for adhd

I will tag you when I find it

Does he see any benefit from getting a diagnosis?
