Re: High functioning ASD

Hello @Till23 , @AuntGlow , @Ru-bee , @Jynx , @Jynx @Appleblossom , @tyme  @SomeRando , @Charlie17 , @Blackcloud @0ddsidian @puppydoglover @Kris_stars1 @Tazzie27 @Adge

my husband still has the flu, but he is a little more alert than the last few days

We have a GP appointment on Monday which is a good start

trying to find the right medications is the hardest -- he has been through a few

he has 2 questions at the moment

1) ASD and insomnia

2) ASD and stomach problems

Re: High functioning ASD

Hi @Shaz51 I hope the appointment goes well. I can't remember who thought Mr Shaz might have ASD.

I'm sure you are aware of this, but writing down questions before going to GP can really help. Try to think of specific things that you'd like to ask.

Re: High functioning ASD

@Charlie17 thank you. I'm also autistic and I have concerns about the language being used in this thread. It is making it hard to engage in what is being said. It looks to me like this thread would benefit from having some resources to explain the basics of language and what autism actually is.

I understand that it is hard to be updated about language and stereotypes for every type of identity, so I don't mean this in a critical way towards anyone here.

Re: High functioning ASD

@Shaz51 I hope the appointment went well and that your husband is feeling better now. Insomnia and stomach problems are both common parts of people's autism fruit salads (see link below), but a GP is likely to treat them as separate issues. And they both get treated in a similar way as they would with a non-autistic person (blood test, stool sample test, ultrasound, increasing physical activity and bedtime routine).

If you or your husband want to think outside the box on these symptoms and do your own research, this resource can be a good starting point. Look under physical health and sleep disorders. A lot of the links are no longer active, but you can google the terms yourself for more updated information.
