Re: Self care by growing a garden
Oh well, there goes that idea @Former-Member
Probably not sutlited to where I was thinking.
Not that that corner needs anything. Looks good as it is, just the thought of some added colour.

If the soil well drained bromeliads could be an option @Determined,

Re: Self care by growing a garden
Well I finally managed to get the back yard mowed. Have been putting it off for the last week. Will try and do out front once it cools off a bit. Tomorrow I want to do some more trimming and finish loading the trailer for a dump run when the dump reopens on Wednesday.

Re: Self care by growing a garden
I decieded I felt recovered enough to go out and water the pots and a few "thirsty" plants. (Generally though, if something is in the ground here, I expect it to find its own water.)
Glad I did it, because watering is a good chance to check up on how everything's going. First cherry tom is starting to colour (most of them are still impatiently waiting in pots), Moorpark Apricots are nearly ripe, and the (undersized) clingstone peaches are close behind. Small tasty yellow plums are getting close too, jostaberries are ripe or close?? but the birds have raided a lot of the redcurrants while I've been under the weather.
Aaand by the time I'd done that, I was dizzy enough to need a little lie down. But I got it done, yay.

Re: Self care by growing a garden
Sounds like a good effort @Smc
I have been finding watering most relaxing and was out myself this afternoon for the first time for close to a week.
I also finally managed to transplant some border plants into a gap that had been crowded out by a shrub.
And had another go at trimming a hedge.
Will have to get back to the hedge tomorrow as I was summoned for dinner 😊
I could possibly go back out for 1/2 hour but once I have stopped very hard to get back moving again.

'Onya @Determined @Smc
Felt inspired so have just come in from watering some of the newer plantings and I filled the bird baths too @Shaz51 which were all empty and topped up the wine barrel (which has a water lily in it). While I was out I did trim back a few plants that were impeding a couple of pathways.

Re: Self care by growing a garden
@Former-Member, I tried growing a water lily this year in a pot submerged in a large plastic rubbish bin. I think I did everything according to instructions, but it's a no show. 😞 I may need to try with a live plant instead of a dormant rhizome.
I do have yellow water irises growing very nicely in a black plastic bucket. Given they can become weeds, I'm not sure that's such an achievement. But their flowers are lovely.

Re: Self care by growing a garden
I think my water lily was purchased as a live plant @Smc. Have the yellow irises too, growing in a spot they can happily fill.

Re: Self care by growing a garden
@Former-Member @Smc we have a bird bath in the front yard that we see lots of birds in, way more then when it was in inlaws front garden where we came from,.
Darling thinks I'm mad but I would like a bigger ond in the back yard. There is an old fish pond I want to fix up and think a bird bath in the middle of that with a solar fountain that overflows into the fish pond would be awesome.
