Mine are almost thread-bare (some of them), with big holes & tears....

Perhaps for your birthday (or if you find them on sale) you could treat yourself to a quality towel or two @Adge .
So as not to overload the linen cupboard I limit the towels for human use to two per person (based on number of bed spaces in house available for regular + guest capacity). As towels wear they become dog towels, then floor cleaners, then out.
