Hi @Former-Member, @AussieGirl & @Casey,
Glad you could join us
@Former-Member flashbacks and dissociation are definitely difficult response to trauma to cope with. Difficulty trusting other and reaching out are common effects of trauma. It sounds like you have done alot of work to be able to learn to reach out, utilise grounding skills and experience safe/secure relationships. You are taking all the right steps!
@AussieGirl and @Casey please feel welcome to share any effects following a traumatic experience that you have noticed if you feel comfortable

Hi Aussie Girl.
I'm on iPad. I just keep refreshing page. I've learnt elsewhere that a forum is not the same as a chat room.
my contribution living with effects of trauma. Intrusive thoughts when least expecting, disturbed sleep or suddenly waking with disturbing memories, crying at inappropriate times, less resilient in times of moderate stress.
i have commenced herbal medication for resilience and sleep.
and changing psychologist - that's expensive as it takes a few sessions to find a psychologist that I 'gel' with

The biggest issues for me are trust and feeling safe. I never feel safe anywhere. I don't trust anyone at all. I don't share anymore. I never reach out to anyone when I am struggling. I put on a front at all times. When I am alone is when I break. Others don't seem to be able to handle it. I am trying to keep my job. I have few support people. I can't celebrate or feel joy anymore, in anything.
