That's a wonderful habit @Charli.  Gratitude is really powerful.  That practise will start to shift your whole perspective so you start to look for things to be thankful for each day.  Definitely a habit worth persisting with.

Hi @Former-Member I have a list that I made up, they are really simple things liek go to an art class, crochet, knitting, bike rides, go into the city and I'm in the care of a really great Psychologist who is trying to get me to think of all areas of my life and being content, not just having my job as my only focus point. He wanst me to do a pie chart with him and investigate some goals that I can have. My problem at times I think is that I feel I dont deserve to be happy because of what I have been through and I get lazy and dont do things or use alcohol on weekends which is a depressant (although we are working on that too)

Re: Topic Tuesday // Forming Habits // 17 Jan. 7pm AEDT

Hi - I am new to this so please excuse any blunders!  I always plan to make positive life changes, such as eating smaller portion sizes, cutting out sugar, going for regular walks... and before I know it, another year has passed and I am rather ticked off that I have let another opportunity go to waste.  I know I could start at any time, but I don't. These habits are all ingrained and I would love to hear of someone who wakes up the next morning and doesn't over think things and just does it!  Health is so important.  The body shouldn't have to suffer just because of problems with the mind and the horrible medications that go with it (that are known to  make people hungry).

Re: Topic Tuesday // Forming Habits // 17 Jan. 7pm AEDT

Well done @Former-Member, that's huge.  I think the idea of only focusing on today is really useful.  It means you only have to find enough will-power for the next 24 hours - not the rest of your life.  Much, much easier.  I hope that strategy keeps working for you.

Great self affirming habit. Thank you for sharing it. It is so important to "look for the silver lining"

Re: Topic Tuesday // Forming Habits // 17 Jan. 7pm AEDT

Hey I so know what you mean about the medications making you put on weight. I have found a fun dance in the dark and used to love biking as a kid, maybe try and remember fun things you like to do and google stuff

Re: Topic Tuesday // Forming Habits // 17 Jan. 7pm AEDT

That's quite a list @Drdoolittle!  Sounds very fun.  But yes, your underlying values/beliefs have to match your goals or you end up working against yourself.  It's great that you are aware of this and can work on it with your Psychologist.

Hello @Former-Member

Re: Topic Tuesday // Forming Habits // 17 Jan. 7pm AEDT

Thanks Suzanne, I don't know what I would do without him and my Dr. He says I need to love myself which so cliched but true and I blame myself for a lot of stuff to do with my husband. He told me I will get to a state of acceptance and start to live the life he would want me to be living. So even though small, if I can get out and meet new people which is really what its about and doing something to fulfil a few hours, we can make ourselves just a bit happier in the process

Re: Topic Tuesday // Forming Habits // 17 Jan. 7pm AEDT

@Former-Member Thanks for the welcome. I frequently make 'resolutions', be it at NY or other important times, and find myself making excuses as to why it was a 'bad time' not to execute them. AHH!
