Re: Topic Thursday // Hearing Voices - functioning day to day // *IN SESSION*

@outlanderaly, you asked about 'other' hallucinations. I get whistles, buzzes, cat noises & banging (sounds external). Also, lately i have been seeing what i call black scurrying bugs, usually just one. It sometimes make me jump up & look & look (in case its a spider) but its never there Is this anything to worry about, will it pass. Sometimes i sense someone here, gesturing, but know its not real (maybe) whats that?

Here are some tools that voice hearers have identified that help them cope on a day to day basis

  • Accupuncture
  • Going to a hearing voices group
  • Keeping a diary about your voices
  • Keeping physically active and healthy
  • Eating pasta!
  • Distraction - listening to music, reading
  • Giving yourself permission to not listen to the voices and just relax
  • Reaching out and talking to someone

What are some tools that you could use?

Sometimes my skin will be covered by bugs of some kind. I can see them but wven fly spray doesn't get rid of them. At other times I can have people come to visit me but when I introduce them to other people they can't see them.

@Former-Member

Thanks for sharing!

We all experience strange things we cant quite explain, the phone rings and we know who it is before we pick it up, Feeling a passed loved one nearby, seeing things out of the corner of our eyes, hearing people call our name. Some can't be explained and some can. If you are concerned they best thing to do it go and talk to someone. Talk to your GP, I know you mentioned earlier you were worried about doing this, but these experiences are normal, and you should not be afraid about asking for help.

i rub my feet together to get to sleep (with radio in background). A banana & cinnamon honey milk good nightcap. No screens.

Re: Topic Thursday // Hearing Voices - functioning day to day // *IN SESSION*

Thanks for sharing @Kurra that must be very scary when those things happen.

Re: Topic Thursday // Hearing Voices - functioning day to day // *IN SESSION*

If these experiences are 'normal' and bearable, why would i trouble an overburdened system to help? There are people so much worse off.

Re: Topic Thursday // Hearing Voices - functioning day to day // *IN SESSION*

Yes @Former-Member
Very frightening. I've been known to drive hundreds of kms trying to get away from them. In this sort of situation I'll often end up being involuntarily hospitalised.

Re: Topic Thursday // Hearing Voices - functioning day to day // *IN SESSION*

Great question @Former-Member If you can manage the experiences you are having, then no need to get help!

You did seem a bit worried, so I was just suggestiing (becasue i'm not a doctor or a clinician) that if you wanted to talk to a professional, or if you were worried at all, they Doctor is always a good option. 🙂

So many people hear voices, or see things other can't and manage these things and never see a doctor. But if its impacting on the way you think, feel or act, thats when its a good idea to get some help.

I wiggle my toes to help me get to sleep!
