Welcome & getting started

New to this forum and welcome message

Hi,

I just joined this forum and thought I would introduce myself. I have been going through a really tough time lately, and don't really have much in the way of support around me. I am now in my mid-30s, and have a long history of mental illness, dating back to age 16. I have been diagnosed with Bipolar I, C-PTSD, GAD, and was told I had Borderline tendencies (mostly due to the C-PTSD symptoms), but do not meet the criteria for a full diagnosis in that department. Recently, I was also diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (what used to be Aspergers Syndrome), and ADHD (combo) type, which has thrown me for a loop, because it was undetected for so long. Anyway, I am just going through a tough time, and wanted to introduce myself. I am hoping to find some useful resources and support in joining this forum. Thanks!

Hi @Bipolar1

While you have a lot of stuff going on.. I would just like to say that I think of you as a person.  What do you like to do? Do you have a favourite Musician? Do you own a pet?

I look forward to seeing you around more in the forums and you providing your expertise in what it is like to live with these symptoms and how they bring strength and light to your life.

Re: New to this forum and welcome message

@Bipolar1 welcome aboard

you sound JUST LIKE my partner - who only found out he was autistic in his 40's which explained so much else, and why the other conditions were so easily triggered... CPTSD, Bipolar, Social Anxiety...

reading articles and blogs by other people on the spetrum really helped us both understand why he reacts in particular ways - and although he still cannot understand (20 years later) why others don't see situations the way he does, at least he accepts that they don't (sometimes).

Good luck x

Re: New to this forum and welcome message

Thank you!!

I hope these forums will be another way to help me understand and heal. It's better not to try to do it alone.

Re: New to this forum and welcome message

Thank you for your reply. I don’t have a pet, but I have two children who are also on the Autism Spectrum.

I have a few interests, including creative writing, making jewellery, and I enjoy studying. I have 3 degrees in Criminology/Psychology, and am doing a postgrad in law. I have found it a struggle to get work in my relevant fields, however, because of everything going on. I’m also married, but my marriage is going through a rough patch at the moment. I’m hoping we can overcome it.

I am a certified book and movie buff. I also love nature and beach walks.

How about you?

Re: New to this forum and welcome message

Hi, thanks for your reply. Blogs, YouTube, and other articles have been invaluable to understanding my diagnosis….the other diagnoses explained a little bit of what was going on, but I really felt like the Autism diagnosis described what was going on with me so accurately….I could look back at different instances in my life and go, “Oh, now that makes sense.” It was my most psychologist that pointed it out, and both my boys were flagged for it at school, so we all went and saw a specialist (after waiting for months), and all received the diagnosis. Now, my husband is the only neurotypical in the household. Poor him, lol
