hi

With work how do you ask for time off to have a good break and get standard annual leave when the place you work at is so understaffed and you don’t get paid standard annual leave and how do you afford the time off if you don’t get paid leave per year.

Can you’s think of any reason as to why everyone is leaving the hospitality industry just as it reopens. Can think of the below.

1. When they closed in 2020 people had to find other work and discovered they can work less and earn same or more money and it’s not as hard.

2. A industry that’s known for no life quality and short breaks and long hours and hard work has been made harder during the coronavirus.

3. Some people probably done it over 10 years and probably weren’t going to be there much longer anyway and used the lockdown as a chance to make the change.

4. Boomers have probably retired

5. Bit of everything As you’s know hospitality is only really meant to be a job while studying and just to pay the bills while you keep looking.

Very unlikely going to last past the main bosses 60th birthday who is currently 57 in hospitality the co owner is currently 61, if there still there what is a professional way to ask if you can cut out hospitality and just concentrate on the secondhand stuff.

Otherwise if they’re not then just going to do part time test and tag and add small maintenance as well

Re: careers

Hi @daisy20202-7,
Negotiating annual leave can be difficult, particularly in casualised industries such a hospitality. The Fair Work Ombudsmen provide comprehensive advice regarding leave entitlements, and it might be a good place to start for more formal advice: www.fairwork.gov.au

In terms of your last question regarding concentrating on secondhand stuff, would you be able to explain a little more about what that might look like for you?
