@Shaz51 I hear you. Very challenging and delicate balance you manage on the daily!

Re: // Online Event // Our rights as mental health carers - with Mental Health Carers NSW // Tues, Oct 27th 7-8.30pm AEDT

@Shaz51 I am sorry to hear this. It's really important stigma is reduced not just in the wider community but most importantly the mental health sector. We do not judge you and think you a resilient human.

Tying into the next question @Shaz51 @JH_MHCN @Former-Member ..

What do you think are some common rights Mental Health Carer’s have available to them, that they are not aware of?

Blame has no place in a therapeutic service. It is no alternative to helping people deal with their problems and giving them the support they need

Mental Health Act of NSW contains a number of important rights for carers:
Concerning the recognition of families and carers, s68 (j) now provides: ‘
the role of carers for people with a mental illness or mental disorder and their
rights under this Act to be kept informed, to be involved and to have information
provided by them considered, should be given effect.

I'm here now sorry I'm late 😊

Re: // Online Event // Our rights as mental health carers - with Mental Health Carers NSW // Tues, Oct 27th 7-8.30pm AEDT

This allows some information to be shared with carers recognised under the Act. There are: Designated carer
The term ‘primary carer’ in the Act has been changed and is now known as a
‘Designated Carer’ (s71). Consumers may nominate 2 such designated carers.
Principal care providers
(s72A).
The Principal Care Provider is the person who is primarily responsible for providing
day to day support and/or care but is not wholly or substantially paid on a commercial basis
(s72A(1)).

ammm @JH_MHCN@nashy

it does depends on if our loved ones go to hospital on their own or are forced to go

as my husband went on his own accord to hospital , he had more rights than others , we had doctors appts , specialists, daily outings , information

i was able to get accomadation for me to stay close in the big city which is 70 kms away from our home

hello @Anastasia Heart

Re: // Online Event // Our rights as mental health carers - with Mental Health Carers NSW // Tues, Oct 27th 7-8.30pm AEDT

I had a hospital refuse to provide me with my son's clinical notes and tell me they would charge to supply to him at over a hundred dollars! Is that ludicrous?
