Hey there @TAB 🌺🙂
Sorry to hear the masks aren’t working out… that’s really unfortunate because it’s kind of like ‘teaching your body to not go to sleep with a mask on’ when the masks continually don’t work - if that makes sense? Like, when I mask wakes you or doesn’t let you sleep, it’s ‘teaching’ your sleep-brain (the bit that lets you fall asleep) to ‘wake up’ over and over, every time you have a mask on that isn’t working well… as opposed to a comfortable and well fitting mask being of little disturbance and your sleep-brain accepting it with relative ease and then going to sleep with it on as if it wasn’t there.
This conundrum is a challenge to overcome, because there’s a new pattern of ‘waking up/becoming alert’ in the sleep-brain that needs to be overcome before the sleep-brain can learn to accept and ignore a comfortable and well fitting mask.
Solutions? They’re elusive: keep trying masks and laying with them on even while feeling alert as soon as you put it on for sometimes a long long time before you finally go to sleep, and repeat this for days and days till you retrain your sleep-brain (but that requires finding the ultimate super awesome fit mask beforehand otherwise it just won’t work); have a break (pending Dr saying it’s ok) and ‘unlearn’ the wake/alert cycle with sleeping without a mask on; or have someone who is really smart investigate all the secondary settings in your device to ensure the highest level of compliance/comfort settings have been applied (I used to work with a wide variety of manufacturers, and these settings are all different across each one - you’ll need a clever sleep person to check them for you). Finally, I remember you’d mentioned that you think daytime breathing is also something to consider..it’s well worth mentioning this to your sleep doctor specialist because if it is confirmed, the nighttime pressurised air delivery system is significantly different than what CPAP/APAP is, and works to support not just with pressure, but with the mechanics of breathing air in and out in a much more active way (there are many different machines, with different degrees of ‘breathing support’).
I hope that’s helpful 🙂🌺

@TAB @Former-Member @Meowmy @Former-Member @MDT @tonys
Good morning guys,
I am home alone today. Hubby is working all day and left a little while ago. I had to cancel going to my walking group because I feel like I am coming down with a cold or something. Don’t know what I am going to do all day. Maybe I should do some cleaning up.
