Hi all & anyone else interested in EMDR

I had my 2nd session today.

I really like this therapy, no love it!

After saying how i felt after last session we went straight into todays session.

Immediately i entered where we left off last time.

So i sat with once again a really vivid image of a situation. This session was all about being trapped & scared.once again i panted & cried but controlled on meds. As the emotions lessened my mind took me straight to another situation where i was trapped & scared. Emotions rose then gradually eased as i watched the psychologist move the stick from side to side in front of my face. Once i began to feel less emotional my mind took me to another situation. Think i went to about 4 situations that all held the same theme of feeling very trapped & scared with no help or support. By the end my mind started to c that i actually did escape on my own. That was the pos empowering thought came thru to take over from the neg emotions of fear & that no1 cared. It helped me c that i did get free & moved forwards.

At the end my mind started off to another situation & i could feel it was going to b a big one & my reaction let the psychologist know it was time to stop so he got me thinking about the first situation.

The image was no longer vivid. I could hardly c it. There was no emotions linked with it.it was a memory without the image slammed in my face upsetting me.

Thats the part that proves to me its worked. I can remember the incidents but i can hardly visualise them. & i dont feel anything when i remember back.

I highly recommend this treatment. However i say again i couldnt do this off meds + i feel totally at ease with this Psychologist. Think thats incredibly important. U need to b able to release the strong emotions to this person then b able to have a laugh about something funny that happened in ur day too.

Hes extremely happy with my progress. Continues to praise me for all the writing i did to prepare for these sesdions.

Glad ive done that writing at home.

After the session i feel i need to rest a bit. My focus is a bit vague kind of.

I guess its a bit like after u have a crying session u need to just b gentle for the rest of the day.

Anyway im thrilled to b able to have EMDR after all these yrs of nothing working for me

Its just gotten a bit warmer here. Everyone is noticing it

Hi @Former-Member , thanks for the update.  Its really great that EMDR is working for you 🙂 Heart

Re: EMDR - Has anyone done this

Hi. I have done EMDR for PTSD on multiple occasions.

For me it had worked pretty well. If you have a good psychologist doing this therapy you aren't pressured and there is no wrong or right way to do it.

You let thoughts come and go and just notice them and eventually your brain leads you on all crazy thought patterns that aren't even to do with your trauma.

Your therapist doesn't need to do eye movements either, tapping on either side of palms or knees for example, anything that's bilateral.

It is far less traumatic than having to relive through your trauma and often has faster results, I know a few others who have tried it.

I no longer have triggers or memories of people (seeing someone that looks similar) or constantly being on edge.

Of-course it's going to be different for everyone. Share with your therapist your concerns about doing it and I'm sure they will accomodate for you. At first you usually do shorter intervals and short sessions to get the hang of it as it can be a little exhausting sometimes.

Good luck with it all.

Re: EMDR - Has anyone done this

Hi @Former-Member  and @Usvexi  (welcome to the forums) .  You both do such a good job of describing how EMDR works.  It's working like that for me too.

Re: EMDR - Has anyone done this

@eth

@Usvexi

So glad ur both getting it too.

Im actually looking forward to this. I trust it 100%!

Results soooooo fast.

It feels like im hypnotized whilst im somewhere releasing the emotions.

Its so brilliant. It erases the emotional connection to the trauma.

When i look back at the memory now i can hardly visualize it & it seems sooooo far away now.

Cause it is so far in my past.

I honestly believe its all trauma with me.

So ill just keep going back to erase the emotions so i get free from it.

I feel i need to go slowly after it cause my brain feels foggy like i have to really think about what im supposed to b doing & where im meant to b for the rest of the day.

So i dont do anything more than i have to. I just accept that itll pass & just take it easy.

Anyway im over the moon with it.

Psychologist keeps telling me ive done the hardest work with writing it all out tho & yes hes right. That was hard.

Im just letting it flow out now.

Loving no homework & no more preparation needed.

It just comes to me so fast at the next session. Must b just meant to be for me. Right time for me to have this done thats for sure

Re: EMDR - Has anyone done this

@Donna It's also normal for 24-48 hours after the session for your frontal cortex to process trauma and other information rationally.

So if you experience any negative thoughts just remember it's part of the healing process. Most therapists will try to always end the EMDR session on a good positive note and guide it to that direction.

Good luck with it all

Re: EMDR - Has anyone done this

@Doglover It has been nearly a week since I have seen you around Hon and suspecting that it is still really difficult for you. Just wanted you to know I am thinking of you and sending you some love and hugs Heart

Re: EMDR - Has anyone done this

Hi @Zoe7 @  , thanks so much for ur post and for thinking of me. I don't even know what to say, things are crazy out of control here. Restlessness and agitation- thru the roof. I can't sit down, I can hardly sleep and thats with meds, in a state of fear and panic. I have burning sensations throughout my whole body and head, and my mind is racing out of control. I'm in such a bad way I just don't know what to do. The specialists don't know what to do with me either. It's just awful, I'm so scared Zoe.

Re: EMDR - Has anyone done this

Hi @Doglover,

Things sound really overwhelming right now. I'm so sorry to hear you're going through this. I'm sending you an email to check in.

Take care,

Tortoiseshell

Re: EMDR - Has anyone done this

@Doglover I thought you may be still feeling much the same from your absence Hon. Hearing you and feeling very much for you. Heart
