End of my ability

Hi my 16 year old son has been suicidal for a long time , suffice to say we have been through the wringer. I have tried so hard to listen , love and understand. Another evening tonight where he’s been let down by someone and he’s down again. I don’t know what to do say or even how to react anymore. I’m thinking “ self harm [edited by moderator] like you keep trying” I’ll be desperate I’ll be mortified and I’ll be haunted forget” . Right now though I can’t stand the “when” I sit up I get up I fret I’m worried continually I can’t go on, i awake every night at 2am - and check if he’s asleep  I get I’m being so “me” here , he won’t seek help he won’t listen or take any sort of advice from anyone.
Ill be sick for a year but then I can move on with his memory , what  an awful dad I am I can’t keep  doing this .

help I’m so sad and desperate

Re: End of my ability

Hi @Dadofson ,

Thank you for sharing. It sounds so difficult for you right now - not knowing when or when not you will see your son next. I hear how desperate the situation is.

Does your son have any supports? For example, does he reach out to:

Kids Helpline 1800 55 1800 https://kidshelpline.com.au/

Headspace https://headspace.org.au/

ReachOut Peer Chat https://au.reachout.com/peerchat

It sounds like your son really needs support right now. Has he seen a doctor or specialist about his mental health needs?

As well as that, I hear how hard it is for you. ReachOut have a parent coaching program on a 1:1 level which may help you through this rough patch. I'd encourage you to give it a go One on One Support | To help you support your teenagers through a tough time. - ReachOut Parents

Please know you are not alone in this.

Re: End of my ability

How are you @Dadofson ,

I was thinking about you and your son, so I can't past to see how things are.

Please tag me if you get a chance to respond. You can do this by typing "@" in front of my name e.g. @tyme

Re: End of my ability

  • @tyme @Thank you fir responding. We have had a lot of help from mental health hospital admission through local support. Whilst it’s still ongoing he’s still alive I’m just still desperate every day for “how” ; my work have been wonderful in their support . I’m all over the place but grabbing hold  of any progress .
he won’t take any support or help as” no one can help me” ; we continue to push him to ask .

  • thanks against n

Re: End of my ability

"No on can help me" is the condition that is speaking, not him @Dadofson . We hear our worries and we want you know you are not alone. We want you to make sure you are also being looked after, as this can have a huge impact on your own health.

It sounds like people are trying to support you any way they can.

I'd encourage you to continue reaching out.
